Portra Mania!

Sunday, March 18th, 2012
The more I shoot Portra the more I love it.  With the recent news of Kodak’s Bankruptcy,  the cancellation of all their slide films (doesn’t bother me, I never shot very many slides, and when I did, I used Fuji), and the increase in price of their remaining film by 15%, the future looks grim for film shooters.  Or does it?  If paying 15% more per roll / pro-pack means that Kodak will continue supplying rolls of film to feed to my Bronica, Nikon F bodies, Holga, Lubitel, and Yashica, I will gladly do it.  Shooting film takes commitment.  But, there has never been a better time to shoot film than the present.  The technology used in film production has never been better than it is now.  If you are a 35mm Nikon / Canon shooter, you can take advantage of the new optical formulas in their newest prime and zoom lenses, combining them with the pro bodies of yesteryear which you can pick up for fractions of what they cost brand new!  Medium format cameras offer such a value of high image quality at affordable prices!  This is the golden age for film shooters, and I intend to enjoy every second, minute, day, month, year that I am still able to shoot film.

A little bit from all the members of the Portra Family, mix of 160, 400, and some 800.  I’m committed to you Kodak, and there are many, many, many others like me out there.  You keep making it, we’ll keep buying it.  Shooting it.  Developing and scanning it.  Sharing it.  Loving it.  Get your affairs in order, make more film…
PS, Don’t kill off Ektar!!
