Well not so much love, more like Lubitel flirting, it’s been so long since I’ve shot with it, I missed the focus on the first three shots I took with it on this night. These two I nailed the focus pretty much; hey it’s a two element (if that) lens, only one stop down from wide open. I wished my PC sync on my Yashica was working, it’s lens is crisp, and I would have loved to have shot it. Plus if you’ve ever shot a Lubi, they can be pretty tough to nail the focus on without regular practice. But there’s something about the way that these shots came out, the softness of film; combined with the Russian Glass of the Lubi, and the color palette of Portra 160. And it was just fun using the Lubi in the studio!

Can’t wait to try something like this again….possibly with some new Bronica gear? Or with a repaired 124g….

I recently replied to a CL ad, and the first part of the reply email said “I see that you’ve worked with my friend Josh!” E-Young wanted a intellectual hip hop look, so we met up in Denton to shoot that, and I think that we made that happen!

I look forward to working with E-Young on some other shoots in the future.

As of late I’ve been buying film, because I’ve had this resurgence of wanting to shoot film. I’m going to start trying to incorporate film in to some of my upcoming shoots, and then in the future I would like to do some shoots on film only! from one of my previous posts this year, it’s pretty established that I have plenty of 35mm film, and then plenty black and white 35mm at that! (I need to get some color, which is to come!), but 120 film I’m kind of lacking on (because I only started toying with medium format 5 years ago, and the only medium format cameras that I had at that time were a Holga and a Lubitel 166) I’ve now added a Yashica 124 to my mix, and I’m hoping to be able to set aside some funds to get a Bronica SqA (that’s right I love the square format), so I’m trying out different types of film; I bought some Kodak Portra NC to try it out, and then I’ve been wanting some comparable Fuji Stock (NPH & NPZ) to shoot and compare. So thanks to Ebay, 15 rolls of film have made their way from parts outside of Texas to my door step, fresh stock too.

And also in my Ebay trawling, I managed to snag a Polaroid land model 220, so I bought me a couple of boxes of Polaroid from Adorama as well, looking forward to shooting those, and learning how to effectively shoot with an older Polaroid model!
*PS, for some reason I didn’t move my old yearbook out of the shot, but I guess in a way it’s appropriate, it was all film back in 93

Just got some images back from ScanCafe….shooting film these days takes some dedication; either you breakdown and get a scanner (and if you’re really serious, learn to hand process your own film, that way you don’t have to send it to a lab and wait almost 2 weeks to get it back…), or you subject yourself to the time it takes to get a couple of rolls developed and then paying the cost to have someone locally scan it (or send it off for scanning).
These are from the first time that me and Grant Meeks, met and we went for a small photowalk through the streets of downtown Dallas, he shot digital, so he had his post up on this within a week or so of us shooting it….me well it’s almost August and I’m just getting the images up, I got the disc from Scancafe back about a week ago. I still want to shoot more film, I just need to make the investment so that I don’t have to have such a long turnaround time on the images.

Just having some fun in Downtown Dallas with Grant Meeks….getting off our butts and shooting something. We did one of these not too long ago, Grant shot digital and I shot film…which should be reaching Scan Cafe’s scanning center right about now. This time we switched roles; he shot film and I shot digital. Next time we’re both shooting film, or we’re both shooting digital. Also with shooting with my philosophy of one shot no chimping…I shot this like I had a roll of 24 exp film, I ended up with 25 shots, with about 12 finals, here’s six of those:

The past couple of months have been nothing but portfolio building, and following through with my 2010 photo goals…. I met Stacey on the List. We met up a couple of weeks ago to shoot one look. Big thanks goes out to Grant Meeks for making the drive from downtown Dallas to downtown Ft Worth to assist!

I recently ordered a Shootsac, a great way to solve a problem every photographer who shoots with multiple lenses faces: What to do with your extra lenses while you are shooting? When I’m at a wedding, I usually carry a 17-55, a 85 1.4or 1.8 and a 70/80-200 2.8. That was when I was shooting DX, but due to a recent investment, I joined the Nikon FX camp with a brand new D700 and now I’m back to shooting primes. I’ll be carrying a 24, 35, 50, an 85 and a 80-200. Five lenses. In the past, even when I was carrying only 3 lenses, it was always a problem carrying the other lenses around, I would usually sling a smaller camera bag on my shoulder which was a pain. Especially because you would have to keep the lens caps on when you put a lens back in the bag. Enter the Shootsac, it’s made of neoprene firm enough to hold the lenses in place, and soft enough so that it doesn’t scratch the glass. When I got home today I found a box from Adorama on my front porch.

I was wondering how I would wear the ShootSac along with the R-strap that I usually wear when I shoot, two straps crossing each other across my chest, but I’m anxious to try it out during a live shoot!

I loved the tip card from Jessica Claire, I wonder if you get a different one for every product you order. You can change out the covers for different patterns, the majority of them are more feminine, so I stuck with the basic black, can’t go wrong there! One thing that I did notice walking around with it, the neoprene gets hot against your body if you wear it messager bag style. I’m going to have an opportunity to test it out fully in a little under a week and a half, can’t wait!
